The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

End of Life Procedure
End of Life Care at home is a frequent request of Veterinarians. It's never easy to say good-bye to a long-time companion. The procedure is done with your pet's dignity and comfort in mind.
We sedate your pet prior to the euthanasia. This injection can cause a brief amount of pain while being administered; but it aids in reducing the pet's and the owner's anxiety. Additionally, it makes the transition more peaceful for everyone involved. Then once the sedation has taken effect, a barbiturate is administered in the veins to stop the heart.
Pet Paws
We now offer Paw Print Kit Clay to owners at the time of euthanasia. Owners can model the clay and do an imprint of their Pet's paw, bake the clay and immortalize their Pets forever.
Please let us know if you are interested in this service.
Laying our Long-Time Companion to Rest
Once deceased, Owners can then bury their pets (if allowed in their area) or have them cremated. Agape Pet Services is located in Kernersville. You can either transport or arrange your pet to be picked up with their service. Owners make these arrangements by clicking the link below.
Companah is a small business founded in Central North Carolina, owned and operated by Hal and Shannon Atkins. Caring for others, living and loving the natural beauty of our state, and having careers in science and technology are the reasons they have built this practice. Hal spent his childhood in the mountains of North Carolina enjoying the natural splendor of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Shannon spent her younger years down east on the Neuse and Pamlico Rivers. Knowing the importance of our natural environment, they are excited to bring a technology that will significantly reduce the environmental impact of traditional animal cremation methods while returning a better overall product to your family.
Hal and Shannon have always enjoyed having dogs and cats as a part of their family – experiencing the joy of their companionship and knowing full well the pain of their loss. They recognize that the first experiences of grief and loss for young children often occur around the death of a family pet. Shannon and Hal believe very strongly that they can provide resources of healing that may serve them as they grow and mature – all the while showing that science can afford us advancements that reduce our impact while returning and even better product. Owners make these arrangements by clicking the link below.
A Child’s Loss
For those of you that have small children, when it comes to saying goodbye, it can be more challenging. Our practice has compiled a list of some books that can aid in the transition parents may face with their children afterwards in helping their children to understand the loss of their beloved pet. Some of the titles include:
I MISS MY PET, SOMETHING VERY SAD HAPPENED, MISSING JACK, THE GOODBYE BOOK, WHEN YOU HAVE TO SAY GOODBYE. We hope this helps!

Thank you Dr. Klatt for taking time out of your busy weekend to help us with an unpleasant situation where we felt we had nowhere else to turn. You were very informative and compassionate with assisting us with having to put our chocolate lab "Chocolate"down due to his age and immobility. The process was as smooth as possible.

Companion Animal Veterinary Services Cares
While we do our best to meet the needs of everyone, we receive a lot of requests for End of Life Care from non-clients. We try our best to accommodate as many of these requests as possible. PLEASE understand our practice in NOT an In-Home- Euthanasia Practice. We have built this service into our practice as a treatment option when necessary. Our practice is built on maintaining the best health plan for your loving pet. We ask our new clients to please plan for this event while understanding that if you call on the same day that you wish to have the procedure done, there is a possibility that we cannot meet those wishes. Our Practice covers a 50-mile radius from our home office, and with a high demand on first time in home visits, we sometimes simply cannot fit this visit in on such short notice.
Please help us know all the needs in your pets life.
